"So Saul said to his servants, "Provide for me now a man who can play well and bring him to me.Then one of the young men said, "Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who is a skillful musician..." ( 1 Sam 16:17-18,NASB) Excellence will separate you from the pack. When the spirit of excellence rests on you, you become exceptional. It is however important to know that excellence is a choice. It is a way of life. You choose to be excellent. You are not going to wake up one day and discover that you are excellent. Excellence requires hardwork, determination, discipline, sacrifice. But it is all worth it. The world will always rise in ovation to people of excellence. People of excellence never die because their names and works continue to live on long after they are gone. Each time I read the Bible and come across stories of people whose name made it into the Bible, I am inspired and motivated. You have to understand that there were many persons alive in the Bible days, but only few people and their stories, through divine inspiration, made it into the Bible. That is excellence. It means this people's life were so excellent and noteworthy that the Holy Spirit considered it relevant to be included in God's written manual for life. What an honour!.
David was one of such persons. The entire life history of David was included in the Bible - from infancy to adulthood and eventually death. David was a man of excellence. Right from his youth when all he had was his tambourine; he played it so well and skillfully that he got an invitation to play at the king's palace. Many young persons blame their parents, their background, their environment, etc for their lack of success. They would blame anything and anyone for their failures and mediocrity, except themselves. If only they could look inward! David was so good and excellent at everything he did. It must have cost him extra time on the tamourine to be so skilled. As a matter of fact he was the best musician of his time. He must have cut down on his movie times, TV times, play times to devote more time to his music. And little wonder he composed so many of the Psalms we read today. I always find it confusing - a lot of people are stuggling to be good at one thing; but some people are able to perform many things excellently well.
Pursue excellence!
