"But thanks be to God, who always leads us in Christ's triumphal procession and through us spreads the aroma of the knowledge of him in every place." (2 Cor 2:14, CSB) This is a prayer of thanks. A proclamation of Apostle Paul's confidence and trust based on years of observation and experience. It is one thing to make a sweeping assertion based on passion or exuberance, and entirely something else to make a statement of certainty that has been balanced by years of testing and certified by having the same assured outcome every time. The test of time is the greatest test. And Paul having gone through many things as a minister could beat his chest and say "Thanks to God who always leads us to triumphant procession" In another translation, it "Thanks be to God who always leads us in victory". Notice that it didn't say He is leading us "to" victory; "in" victory. Which means we are going to become victorious, we are already victorious. Even before the battle starts we are victorious. Whatever we are doing, we are operating from a place of victory..
Victory isn't something we are attaining towards. Our victory is not in the future. it is in the present: here and now. God is not leading us to victory. He is leading us in victory. In other words, we are living at the dimension of victory. That is why we are more than conquerors. We are not going to win. We have won!
