"O my God, my soul is cast down within me; therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill of Mizar" (Psa 42:6) There are one of two things that problems and trying moments can do to us. One, it can make it seem like God has forgotten us; or two, it can make it seem like we have forgotten God. I like the way Genesis 8 started. It says "And God remembered Noah". Now, God never forgot Noah, but considering the predicament the world was in; and the fact that Noah and his family has stayed in the ark for more than one hundred days, it sure seemed like God had forgotten them. As much as we would want to question God when we find ourselves in problems; as much as it terribly feels like God has forgotten us, there are times when problems weigh down on our minds so much that they make us forget God entirely. There are occasions when our problems drive our minds away from God. Mrs Sanusi was a devoted christian, but a twelve year childless marriage was beginning to drive her mind away from God. She was beginning to consider other options and avenues. Friends have told her about some spiritual houses where she could go, offer little sacrifices with goats or chickens and be "prayed" for and she will conceive. It had worked for Madam A, B and C. Suddenly any solution and every solution seemed right. Is there really God? Problems at times can cast a big shadow over our mind's eyes that makes it impossible to see God or to realize that His hands is still behind the curtains. At such times we must remember God..
To remember God is to remember His word, His promises, His laws, His covenant; and to believe that He is able and willing to do what He says He will do. To remember God is to remain steadfast in Him and put our faith wholly on Him. David says "Thy word have I hid in my heart...". The amount of God's word that we have in our heart determines what goes on in our mind. Our mind controls our cognitive reasoning, our memories and our feelings. If we have enough of God's word in our mind, then we would have enough memories of HimĀ to ever forget Him. The question is not will problems ever come. We can all agree that they would. The real question is what will be on our minds when they do. Remeber God. What stays on your mind rules your life.
