"...when I became a man, I put away childish things" (1 Cor 13:11) Don't let whatever happened in your past stand in the way of God's purpose for you. Don't let your past rob you of your present. This is one major area that so many people struggle with in their life - letting go of their past, especially the ugly ones!.
Whatever happened in your past happened when you were younger(a child). If it happened last year, you were one year younger then. If it happened last week, you were a week younger. If happened yesterday, you are a day older today. So grow up and get rid of the past. Jettison the past.
The navy is a branch of the military that specializes on sea warfare. Travelling by sea is so much like travelling through life. There are times when the billows of the sea become so great that the only solution of saving the ship is to throw somethings overboard. The captain will signal for "jettison", and people will start hauling their baggages, computer sets, laptops, heavy stuff overboard. This is a desperate act to free the ship and survive the tumult.
In the sea of life, you will drown if you keep carrying the things from the past. You need to jettison the past so God can have chance to perfect His will in your life. Your mind needs to be freed from the clutches of its ugly experiences in order to experience new ones. A bad memory is like a wound. It re-opens whenever you touch it. Let that wound heal, as you decide to put the past where it rightly belongs - in the past.
My prayer for you this day is that God will give you the strength to put away those childish things so that you can experience the joy of maturity.
Prayer
Father, I pray that you give me the strength and will power to become victorious today by putting away the things that hurt me, haunted me and defeated me in the past. I step into your grace and love and victory. Let the power of Jesus Christ fill me with faith to move on from here, in Jesus name. Amen
