"My sacrifice is a humble spirit, O God; you will not reject a humble and repentant heart." (Psalm 51:17) .
We often talk a great deal about sacrifice. What we have given; what we have done; inconveniences or discomforts we endured,; things we lost, etc! All these constitute our self-definitions of sacrifice, and most times we assume that they are also what God wants from us.
While these things are wonderful and cannot be undermined in terms of how much of a sacrifice they are, they are not what is most important to God. What God desires more than anything is a humble and repentant heart... the King James Version calls it, 'a broken and contrite spirit'. There is no sacrifice that God accepts or values except that which is coming from a humble and a repentant heart. If you want to please God, then:
1. Repent from your sins. Give your life to Jesus. Accept him into your life and separate yourself from sin and evil
2. Be humble. God hates a haughty and proud spirit. No sacrifice is as pleasing to Him as a humble heart.
Today as the month of April ends, it is befitting for us to examine what our sacrifices are, and have been. God loves us and wants to bless us. But we must reciprocate this love by dedicating our lives to Him.
Stay blessed.
