"The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it." (Mark 11:12-14) It is one thing to bot have the ability to produce fruits, and another thing to have the ability to produce fruits and fail to do so. That is unfruitfulness like we have come to learn..
All through His earthly ministry Jesus taught and frowned against unfruitfulness. At one point He said "I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away". Jesus used the fig tree that was unfruitful to drive home this lesson. He did not curse the fig tree because He was hungry or because the fig tree "deceived" Him for the fig tree had no mind of its own. The cursing of the fig tree was a teaching moment to illustrate to His disciples and to us the severity of not bearing fruits. Jesus singled out this fig tree because it was "in leaf". In other words it had what it takes to be fruitful, but it wasn't.
God doesn't like unfruitful life, business, ministry, relationship... what He tends to do is usually to cut it down
