"If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples" (John 15:7,8) There are two ways to relate with God. The first is on a general level where everyone is. At this level, the Bible says that God makes the sun to shine for both the righteous and the righteous. Even the devil relates with God at this level because he still recognizes and worships God as Lord and Almighty. But there is a second level - a higher level, and that is the personal level. At this level, you relate with God in a unique and covenanted way different from any other human being on earth. At this level it is just you and God alone!.
Jesus says if you abide in me and my words (plural, notice the "s") abide in you, then you will be able to bear fruits. Now this is where the paradox is, when we receive Jesus as our personal Lord and Saviour, when we personalize God - a special relationship is brewed - He comes into us, and we also go into Him. I will admit, even I, do not know how that happens. We go into God, and He also goes into us - a situation I simply called "Paradox of Fellowship". A fractal influx of personalities - you and God - where one leads into the other and the other leads into the former. It becomes impossible to separate or distinguish you from God. He is not just our God, but your God.
At this level, you are constantly in fellowship with Him. You find it easy to obey Him and do His will. You abide in Him and He abides in you. What a sweet communion! This is the level to which God wants to bring all of us. It is at this level that we become all God wants us to be. It is at this level that we can - just like Thomas - exclaim, "My Lord and my God!"
My prayer for you this morning, friend is that God will bring you to this point in your christianity. The level at which it is just you and God and no one else matters! The level at which God is personalized!
