Satisfying your hunger (part 2) - Why God gave us hunger

"Do not work for the food that goes bad; instead work for the food that lasts for eternal life..." (John 6:27, GNV) "Food for the stomach and the stomach for food..." (1 Cor 6:13, BSB) Hunger, according to the Google dictionary, is a feeling of discomfort or weakness caused by lack of food, coupled with the desire to eat. Hunger at the first glance appears to be a negative thing. It causes weakness and discomfort and can ultimately result in death. It is no coincidence that one of the characteristics of living things is nutrition or feeding which happens through eating to replenish lost nutrients and satiate hunger. Friend, do you know that about 300 million cells die in the human body every minute! This constant death and debris creates a vacuum which can only be replaced by the production of new cells made possible by intake of nutrients. It is not a coincidence that the word "hunger" has been used in many occasions as a synonym for "desire", "want"; such that one who sincerely desires for something is said to have a hunger for that..

The truth is that without hunger we are just another lifeless and boring specie on the universe. Take away our hunger and natural desire for feeding, we will have no need to rush to work, to hurry to the office for the 8:00am appointment. We will have no need to marry, to bear children, to build houses, to dress well... simply put we will have no need to exist. Life will become lifeless without hunger. Hunger brings the passion, the drive and the excitement to life. Our greatest joy and accomplishment comes from begetting a hunger and satiating it. That is why God gave us hunger: to give us a sense of purpose, urgency and accomplishment. Hunger has a way of making you wise. People learn to save money, start a business, spend less after they have sufered excruciating hunger. As a matter of fact, the value of anything is derived from the lack of it!
