"So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision.." (Phil 3:15, MSG) Focus is an essential part of life, not only in achieving our life goals or in being successful in business or academics or career; but also in excelling in our spiritual life. In our walk with God, focus is needed. It takes focus to achieve discipline. It takes focus to be consistent. To read the Bible requires focus. To pray daily requires focus. To overcome sin and the flesh we must be focused. The Apostle Paul was an epitome of focus. As a Judaic enthusiast, he was so focused that he spearheaded the persecution of the Christians. He supervised the martyrdom of Stephen. He made deliberate effort to eradicate christianity. He volunteered himself, sponsored himself and was out to be a true Judaist. He knew so much about focus and he lived it. And when he finally became converted he carried the same zeal and focus into his missionary work. The results were simply astonishing. The thing about focus is that it gives us a sense of direction and purpose .
I remember what focus did for young Joshua and his elder pal Caleb when they went in among the spies to see Jericho. They didn't let the physical stature of the people distract them. They were focused on God's word and ability. Paul told the Philippians to stay focused on the goal because that was the only way to get everything they needed from God. And what is more, God is willing to help us achieve this focus.
Could you take a few minutes and pray for focus.
