The gift of working of miracles

"To another the working of miracles" (1 Cor 12:10) Perhaps, the greatest gift that the Holy Spirit accorded the church is the ability to overturn the laws of nature; the ability to perform acts that defy biology or physics or chemistry or whatever other law of nature. To the natural man these things are completely impossible, but with God all things are possible. Turning of water into bread, walking on water, making an iron float on the sea, dividing a sea by hitting it with a stick, turning a staff into a snake, etc - all these are occurrences that defy any natural law or explanation; but they are all miraculous acts recorded in the Bible. Because of how astonishing the result and effect of this gift is, many people seek it without seeking the Holy Spirit, the Giver of the gift. They respect and honour the gift above the Giver. It must be noted that the essence of working of miracles is to draw people into the kingdom of God. I learnt a lesson from Acts of the Apostles, each time the apostles performed a miracle, people gathered and they used the opportunity to preach Jesus to them. performing miracles without using the interest generated to preach Christ is ungodly; and any miracle that causes people to remove their focus from Christ and focus on the person performing the miracle is ungodly..

A miracle is the supernatural intervention in the ordinary course of nature; a temporary suspension of the accustomed order of things. A miracle is not a mystery and neither does it require any secret or mystic knowledge to explain it. Its explanation is simple, it is the power of God at work. There is no need searching for any natural law that might explain a miracle, because there isn't any.

Because the Holy Spirit has already separated healing into a different gift, we usually do not count healing as a performance of miraculous sign when discussing about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Rather we try to focus on those other acts that reorders the laws of nature. This does not in any way diminish the supernatural nature of healing.

The gift of miracles can be used for miraculous deliverance of people from danger, for provision for those in want, confirmation of the preached Word of God, and even raising of the dead, etc as seen from the following scriptures: Exo 17:1-7, 1 Kings 17:8-16; Mark 6:32; John 21:9; Acts 13:11; Matt 8:23

If you have the Holy Spirit, He is able to empower you with this wonderful work if He so desires. My prayer this morning is that as many as has this gift lying dormant in them, may it be activated in Jesus name. Every gift requires faith to function. Exercise your gift in faith, and allow the Holy Spirit to work through you. God bless you!
