"Don't let evil conquer you, but conquer evil with good" (Romans 12:21) It is no news that evil exists in this world. The striking fact is that it will never cease to exist. The Bible confirms that these two opposing figures: evil and good will continue to exist alongside each other. There will always be wicked people, poor people, angry people murderers, criminals, immoral people, etc... There will also always be good people, wealthy people, happy people, etc. Now the real problem with evil is that it doesn't just like to exist on its own. It always likes to influence the good, to suppress the good and possibly conquer the good! But in today's lesson, God tells us to fight back. Let's learn how we can fight back against evil.
Many people have tried to defeat evil by fighting it and have failed. The reason such people failed is not because they fought back, but because they didn't fight it the right way. The fight against evil is not won by "engaging evil with evil", it is won by engaging evil with good. If you want to fight anger, bring about happiness; to fight hunger, provide food; to fight immorality, provide morality; to fight war, provide peace. Jesus said:
"But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them who despitefully use you, and persecute you; (Matt 5:44)
The reason many people don't do this thing Jesus asked us to do is because it doesn't sound logical. The more logical thing would be to hate your enemies, to fight evil with evil and to send the Holy Ghost fire to consume all the evil people. But the problem with that method is that ir doesn't work. We have been doing this a long time and evil is still winning. That is why Jesus gave us a better idea, one that actually works!. If Jesus had commanded fire to consume the Roman soldiers that wanted to crucify Him, we would never have been enjoying salvation today; and evil would have won the battle forever that day! Apostle Paul said: "overcome evil with good".
Don't try to conquer evil with evil. Don't hate back those who hate you. The watch word in Jesus sermon is to pray for them. In another verse, it says that praying for your enemies is actually like heaping colas of fire on their head. Hmm! Don't stoop to the level of evil. Overcome it by doing good.
