"Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you." (Luke 10:19) .
Have you ever had an encounter with a snake? Have you ever chased a snake around in an attempt to kill? If you have you will come to realize that snakes are not easy to hit with a stone or a stick, let alone to be treaded upon with foot.
Snakes have a very flexible body style that makes it so easy for them to wriggle their way out of any predicament. They are fast and slippery. And they posses an uncanny agility that makes them do things no other animal can do. For instance they can coil their entire body into a round ball and sit comfortably on their own body for hours. Simply put, snakes are dangerous.
It goes then without saying that to match on snakes both figuratively and literally as Jesus has given us power to, calls for concentration, precision and discipline. Because if you tread and miss, the split second between missing the snake and your feet landing on the bare floor is enough for the snake to launch a counter attack.
The devil is called the "old snake". When dealing with the devil as we often do, we must be well armed with godly concentration and discipline. We cannot afford to slip because the devil is dangerous.
I pray for grace to not just deal with the snakes of our lives, but to also overcome them in Jesus name. Just be careful. Tread carefully.
