Apostolic Nuggets I: Don't be selfish

"Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves." (Philippians 2:3 NLT) .

Nugget 1: Don't be selfish! Selfishness is to be concerned excessively or exclusively with oneself : seeking or concentrating on one's own advantage, pleasure, or well-being without regard for others. It is self focus and self love to the detriment of others. It is a kind of concern that is directed only to oneself. It is dangerous and harmful.

Selfishness manifests itself in several forms including desire to be seen as the best ways, disregard for other's suffering and discomfort, greed and avarice. There is nothing as bad as being married to a selfish spouse. There is nothing as painful as being parented by a selfish parent. Try being the parent of a selfish child. I haven't seen a worse menace than being pastored by a selfish pastor, or could you imagine the agony of pastoring a selfish member. Woe betide the people whose governor, senator, president is a selfish person.

Selfishness is a great evil that must never be spoken of concerning any child of God. Instead "let this mind in us which was in Christ Jesus" (Phil 2:5) who left His esteemed estate as God in heaven and selflessly took the nature of man and gave His life to redeem us. We must let our passion for Christ make us selfless in our dealings with people.

Stay blessed!
