"A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another." (John 13:34) Love. Love! LOVE!!! One of the most controversial words in human vocabulary. A word that was so important to Jesus that He mentioned it fifty three (53) times. One of the most occurring words in the Bible, appearing three hundred and eleven (311) times in the entire Bible. A word that the devil has so carefully twisted and destroyed to mean something else. A word that every worldly music claims to be based on. A word that everybody believes is needed to change the world. A word that the likes of Shakespeare, Hardley Chase and many prolific writers claimed to be inspired by - artists, painters, the likes of Michelangelo have all claimed to at one time or the other felt the strong influence of this force. But what is love? How did this thing called love start?.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son (John 3:16). This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son (1 John 4:10). Without limiting myself by unnecessary analysis, suffice it to say that love originated from God. Love is God's idea, God's plan for man, God's intent desire for man. God created man to love... The Bible even said that God is love! (1 John 4:8).
As Jesus was preparing for his death, He gathered His disciples and started telling them about love. The topic of the sermon that day was love. He was telling them how love will be all they needed to prove to the world that they were His disciples. He began the sermon by washing their feets, and after He had done all that He said "as I have loved you, that ye also love one another". The new commandment is not to love one another; but to love one another as Jesus loved us. The big question now is, "How did Jesus love us"
