"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for..." (Heb 11:1) There is a strong relationship between faith and hope. It is not enough to have hope. Every hope that is not backed by faith will end in disappointment. Hope is a tricky thing. It is hard to exactly quantify or qualify hope. Hope is very transient and slippery. A mind filled with hope can become hopeless in a matter of seconds. That is where faith comes in..
I don't know about you, but I have met my fair share of disappointments. I have had people crush my hope to dust. I have had my hope reduced to nothingness. I have purposely given up hope by myself in some cases. But as I continue to study the word of God, I come to the understanding of this divine truth that hope without faith is meaningless. If all you have is hope, then you have nothing. The hope that truly produces is that which is powered by faith; for it takes faith to bring hope to life. It takes faith to instantiate and substantiate hope. The bible says "Faith is the substance of hope..."
The beauty of the hope that we have in Christ Jesus is that it is powered by our faith. If you still don't know what faith is all about I refer you to re-read all the messages for this month. It has all been about faith. With faith, that which you pray for and hope will come into reality.
To hope for something means to expect something. Hope is generally defined as a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen. This feeling, this desire, this expectation will come to failure if it is not backed by faith. To have your hope backed by faith is to have it backed by a strong unyielding belief in the word of God. It is to come to the understanding that whatever you hope for can only be supplied by God. He may use your parent, your friends, your spouse or anybody else to do it. But God is the target of your hope. You place your hope in God. That is powering your hope with faith.
