How to wait upon the Lord (concluding part)

"And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD..." (Exo 14:13) "Be still, and know that I am God:..." (Psa. 46:10) In a world where everything is on the fast lane, everything is in motion; God asks us to stand still. What an irony?! I mean isn’t God aware of the fast pace of a technological driven society and the incessant demand to meet up with constantly changing trends? Why would God ask anybody to stand still? Today, business transactions are now charged by the second. “Time is money” is a more striking reality these days than it ever was. We wake up every day realizing the many challenges facing us, and the little or no time we have to carry them out. Everything is now mobile: mobile phones, mobile shops, mobile banks, mobile schools; and as a result we are tempted to create our own “mobile Jesus”. But God says, it is not the way! We need to stand still to see his salvation... we need to wait. How do we do this? Today we continue the lesson on "How to wait upon the Lord".

To wait upon the Lord means to continually put our faith in God through prayers and (occassionally) fasting. God wants us to pray every time, every day! God is not expecting us to pray when things are difficult or when we feel pressured to do so. Such type of praying habit does not originate from faith, but desperation. One of the greatest way to express our absolute trust and faith in God is by praying - by bringing to Him daily every aspect of our lives and endeavour.

Friend, have a regular praying time with God. It doesn't matter how long or what time it is. But make sure that time is solely dedicated to God. All the great patriachs of our faith were men of prayer and moreso daily prayer. Jesus Himself would laways sneak out from company to go pray every night (Luke 6:12) Daniel prayed everyday facing Jerusalem (Daniel 6:10) The Apostles after Jesus left them would abandon petty church politics and welfare programmes so that they may give themselves to daily prayer (Acts 6:4). Peter and John had a daily hour of prayer (Acts 3:1). The list is endles...

Do you want to experience another dimension of God's presence and power in your life? Do you want to see Go move in your life? The way to wait upon God is to come to Him daily in prayer. Full stop. Create a time to be with Him, and fellowship with Him daily. It is difficult at first, but it is very rewarding. Get up now and start waiting on God!
