"Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete." (John 16:24, NIV) For your joy to be full means to have complete and total satisfaction with your life; to be fully at peace and at rest with yourself and your state. It doesn't matter whether you have much or little, if your joy is full; the devil can't stand you. There is nothing that confuses the devil like a child of God bubbling with joy. If there is anything he would do to quench that joy, he would. This is why Jesus wants us to know that at times our joy will suffer shortage; but we have to continously refill. The apostle Paul told the Ephesian christians to "keep on being filled with the Holy Spirit" (Eph 5:18, CJB). In Acts 13:52, we read that the apostles were "continually filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit." (Acts 13:52, NASB). There is a strong relation between fullness of the Spirit and fullness of joy. After all, joy is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. So the only way to have a fullness of it, is to allow the Holy Spirit full access and control in our lives. The more of the Spirit we experience, the more joy we have. Our joy is only complete when we allow the Holy Spirit complete access over our lives. As long as we walk in the Spirit and by the Spirit, and pay attention to the leading of the Holy Spirit and obey Him, we will have fullness of joy..
Fullness of joy does not come from anything else or anywhere else except from the complete assurance that you are living your life in line with God's purpose. You experience true joy when you align your life with God's purpose. When you allow the Holy Spirit to have full reign over your life and decisions, you will experience a fullness of joy.
From where we read in the Bible, Jesus told His disciples, until now you have not asked anything in my name! Wow. That is a real shocker. But it wasn't entirely their fault. They couldn't ask anything in Jesus' name because they don't have the Holy Spirit. Jesus said in another instance, "If I go, I wil ask the Father and He will send you another Helper". (John 14:16) This Helper will help them in everything, including in prayers. When you pray with the leading of the Holy Spirit, you can't get tired or run out of words. Then, there is this unspeakable joy that continues to linger in your soul. That is what Jesus wants you to have.
