"See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! ..." (1 John v3) Love is one of the most overused and yet underused words in our daily vocabulary. It is so easy to talk about love and to say "I love you"; and at the same time so difficult to say "I love you" for fear of being misunderstood. We are scared if not terrified to let our love show, to let people in, to let people know how much we care about them. Yet, at the same time, we are wishing they could show us how much they care. Instead of obeying the divine injunction to love one another, we play the "love" game. Behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us. Love is bestowed, love is never earned. True love - the kind of love that God has for us and expects us to have for each other is never earned. So if you are waiting for your spouse, your friend, your child, your neighbours, your classmates... to earn your love. They never will! Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us - freely given us. The Goodnew translation says "lavished upon us". God actually "wasted" His love on us. He gave it out without thinking if we would appreciate it or not.
In this month of love, you are to practise love. You are to love first the Lord your God with all your heart; and then love your neighbour as yourself. I pray for you this new day of a new month that the love of God may dwell in your heart unto all goodness and righteousness. May you experience the miraculous this month as your heart is ignited with the love of God.
