Praying right (part 2)

"The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how..." (1 Tim 2:1, MSG) Mountains move, problems lose their weight, obstacles tumble down... when we pray. The keyword being "we pray". As Christians, there is no substitute for praying. Preaching, singing, giving alms, reading the scriptures may complement prayer, but they can never substitute it. Prayer has its special place and specific use for the Christian. This is why we must always pray. At a point Jesus told a parable to show that men "ought always to pray".(Luke 18:1) Paul writing to the Thessalonians instructed them to "pray without ceasing" (1 Thess 5:17); and speaking to Timothy; he reminded him that praying must always form a part of their worship session (1 Tim 2:8). This is why we cannot do without prayer; not even Jesus our great Master could do without prayer. As busy as His schedule was, He always found the time to pray. But like we observed in our last lesson, some Christians are too bothered with the need to pray right that they simply fail to pray. Praying right means praying with faith, in sincerity and in accordance with the will of God. It does not imply learning some rigorous technique or performing some esoteric ritual or reciting some special mantra. .

Apparently Paul observed this situation while writing to Timothy. People were becoming more busy talking about prayer than actually praying. His instruction was "pray anyhow you know...". Don't wait for some special signal or special moment or special technique. Don't hesistate. Just get down on your knees and pray. Sit down and pray, lie down and pray, walk down the street and pray... assume any posture or position that best suits you. But by all means: pray. Say the words that flow from your heart. Speak out of the abundance of your heart. Pour out your heart to God. The Lord does not despise a broken heart and a contrite spirit. He loves sincerity and He is waiting on you to pray. Can you just take a few moment right now and pray!
