What are you looking for?

"Jesus turned, saw them following him, and asked, 'What are you looking for?' They answered, 'Where do you live, Rabbi?'" (John 1:38, GNV) This portion of the scriptures is an amazing eye opener. Here were two young men following Jesus. They had heard the message of hope from Jesus and in response they abandoned everything and followed Jesus. They surrendered their lives and passion to Jesus. And in demonstration of their decision. They began following Jesus. But here is where I have a problem. When Jesus turned, and saw them following Him, He still asked, "What are you looking for?". Wow! I mean I used to think it was enough to just follow Jesus. This men were literally following Jesus. They had cancelled all their appointments and are now walking behind Jesus. But when Jesus saw them, He asked them a wonderful question which we must all learn from. He asked them, "What are you looking for?". Today, many people are following Jesus for so many reasons. They come to church for many reasons. They are praying and fasting for so many reasons. They are living a "godly" life for so many reasons. Some are just there because they want God to meet their needs, and then they are gone. Some are following Jesus because it sounds cool; and they want to seem godly. Jesus is very interested in not just our following Him, but in knowing the exact reason why we are following Him. The only reason Jesus wants is for us to come to Him seeking a relationship. We have to follow Jesus with an aim to knowing who He is. .

Thank God that these young men had the right reaons for following Jesus. They responded, "Where do you live, Rabbi?" They wanted to get to know Jesus. They wanted an intimate relationship. And in response, Jesus said "come and see".
