It is not for personal aggrandizement or enrichment. It is also the most easily abused of all the gift. it is also the gift that is mostly mimicked by false prophets. What is this gift? The word of knowledge is the supernatural revelation by the Holy Spirit of certain facts in the mind of God. Just like the gift of words of wisdom which we studied about yesterday, we must also realise that it is not the gift of knowkedge but the gift of word of knowledge. It is not a divine amplification of human knowledge. It is not knowledge that can be acquired through studying or predicting or analyses. It is knowledge that is miraculously conveyed, in the same way that speaking in tongue is given.
The gift is a miraculous revelation that comes without any natural effort. With the gift of knowledge, the Holy Spirit can enlighten and encourage people, warn people, expose a secret, uncover hidden things or people. It may be worthwhile to state a brief difference between the word of knowledge and the word of wisdom. Simply put, the word of wisdom operates usually to reveal the future, while the word of knowledge operates to reveal the present or the past. When Jesus told His disciples to go and kill a fish in the river and that they will find money inside, that was word of knowledge in operation.
