"that had in it all the colors of the rainbow. This was the dazzling light which shows the presence of the LORD. When I saw this, I fell face downward on the ground." (Ezekiel 1:28, GNV) Light is the symbol for knowledge, enlightenment, discovery, eye-opening, recovery, freedom. Whenever light shines, darkness is dispelled. Gloominess is gone. I am always fascinated at how the presence and absence of light can affect even our emotions and mood. I have noticed that whenever there is power failure, people lose their gaiety, liveliness and excitement. Little children duck themselves in a corner. Youths turn to their mobile phones, pressing each key with the uncomfortable consciousness that their battery is going down. The elderly ones brood and ruminate over their lives in silence as a stroke of partial darkness envelopes their homes and thought. Then, suddenly power is restored! The light comes on and with it comes flashes of effervescent grin across their faces. It is as if a new wave of energy has swept through their veins. The children jump in excitement, screaming "Up NEPA". (it doesn't matter to them that the name of the power company is no longer NEPA). The youth rush with renewed zeal to plug in their phones for charging. Adults turn on the television. All of a sudden, everybody is laughing. The tutting has ceased. There is a new lease on life. Trust me I have witnessed this scenario many times than I can care to recount. And unless you live in Nigeria or some other African country where power failure is a normalcy, you may not truly understand the scenario I have just described. I am always awestruck when this happens because it demonstrates to me that light is a game-changer. As the advent of physical light changes everything and lightens up everyone, so does the coming of spiritual light lighten our spirit. .
The presence of God carries the light of His glory. As that light shines on us, we experience a total turn-around. Every gloominess is shredded by the piercing entrance of the light. The Bible says that in him was the light! (John 1:4) He carries the light. His presence reveals that light. That light lightens our mind, body, spirit. We are set free as we come in contact with the light of His presence!
