"He told them, "Consider carefully what you do, because you are not judging for mere mortals but for the LORD, who is with you whenever you give a verdict." (2 Chro 19:6, NIV) Leadership is not a position or a place, it is a responsibility. At any point or place where you have responsibilities, you are a leader. Leadership is the greatest task God has given to man; and God isn't expecting some of us to become leaders, He is expecting all of us - young and old, small and great, man and woman - to become leaders in our little corner and exert such great influence that will bring Him glory. If we do not live our lives with this leadership consciousness, we would mess up a lot of things. I have noticed in a church service when the video camera is coming towards them, most people will sit up, stretch their clothes and look serious and lively. They do this because they feel they are about to be watched. Unfortunately once the camera passes them, they relapse back to their formal unserious selves. To be on top of our game every given time, we must realize that we are leaders wherever we are, and someone is always watching us..
Not many people enjoy being the center of attraction. Some prefer to hide behind the scene. So when you talk about leadership, they think you are not referring to them. Well fortunately, leadership is not about being the center of attraction; it is about being the center of influence, the fulcrum, the best you can be wherever you find yourself. You must know that leadership is coded into our DNA - all of us. In his book, the 360 Degree Leader, John Maxwell says, don't wait to get to the top before you can lead, be a leader from whatever corner you find yourself.
Jehoshaphat was addressing the newly appointed Judges of Judah and he said to them, "Consider carefully what you do". This is a great advice for every leader, every boss, every pastor, every governor, every president, every family head, every king, everyone. Consider carefully what you do. Not only do your actions have consequences, you are also accountable for them. Since you are always leading, then you must always be careful how you speak, dress, eat, drink, etc. In the end you will realize that leadership is really a choice because people can give you a title. but nobody can make you a leader!
Stay blessed!
