Exerting godly influence

"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? " (Matt 5:13) It was John Donne who said that no man is an island. We are all a piece of something, a functional unit in the macrocosm of the universe, a subset of a universal equation. We are not capable of existing alone or acting in isolation. There is no such thing as an independent person. We are all dependent on one another for survival. Study shows that keeping a prisoner in isolation for a year can cause their mental capacity and psychomotor to depreciate or atrophy. Our lives are helplessly interwoven with others. Whether we choose to accept it or not does not change the fact. Every action we take begins a reaction whose ripple effect can be felt for years and generations to come. I think it was Ghandi who said that other people's behaviour is simply a reaction to our own. This is why Jesus left us in the world after saving because He wants us to effect lives, to influence people, to salt the earth. .

The world we live in is completely tasteless on its own. It takes the person of Jesus represented by us christians to salt the world and bring out the sweetness and beauty in it. People often talk about how they want to enjoy life; that dream is only as possible as christians make it. We have a divine purpose and mandate for being here: it is to influence people for Christ, to influence people to do the right thing.

People should look at us and be influenced into doing the right things. I always feel happy each day I could influence one person to take the right decision. And imagine what the world will be if all the over 2 billion christians alive today can influence someone to live right. We will have over 4 billion candles lighted and 4 billion lives salted to taste. How wonderful our world will turn out to be.

Child of God, you have a mandate. Your life is not just for your personal enjoyment. Spread yourself. Share your Jesus. Reach out and influence someone.

Challenge

I challenge you today to reach out and talk to someone face-to-face about Jesus. Some people call it personal evnagelism, I call it lighting a candle.
