Draw near to His presence

"The Lord is far from the wicked; but he heareth the prayer of the righteous" Prov 15:29 Anyone who has ever had their prayers answered can testify that it is such a refreshing experience. It builds your faith. It encourages you. It gives you grounds to keep on believing. It enlarges your joy and it serves as a proof that your christianity is not in vain. It assures you of the nearness of God. The Bibles recounts that the arm of God is not too short to reach us where we are and save us, nor His ear too dull that He cannot hear us (Isa 59:1). That means that God is always nearby to hear us, and save us, and protect us, and empower us. Now imagine my astonishment when I read in the book of Proverbs 15:29 that the Lord is far from the wicked". I can't imagine how terrible that must feel. One of the things that gets me through the day, and gives me the strength and courage to keep on moving forward in spite of whatever obstacle that may come my way is the fact that God is with me. His presence is around me. I can call Him and He will answer. I can depend on Him. To lose that sense of confidence and assurance will be devastating. Yet, there are people who are continually living their lives far from God's guiding presence..

There is a set of people who never enjoy the nearness of God. They are the wicked. Time will fail me to exhaustively talk about the wicked. But suffice it to say that the wicked represents anyone who does not fear God. Anyone who has no regard for the word of God. The Bible says that God is far from them. And the sad truth is that some of these people are in the church. Friend, do you know that the moment you cut yourself off from the word of God, you have cut yourself off God. The divine injunction remains, "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you" (James 4:8)
