"Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life" (Jude v.21) We all know of the magnificence of the love of God. The world came into existed as a result of His love. We were redeemed as a result of this love. We are preserved and secured by this love. The song writer exxclaimed, "His banner over me is love" (Song 2:4). God's love is great and eternal yet the Apostle Paul talks of being separated from the love of God (Rom 8:38). Question is, is it really possible to be separated from the love of God? Can one actually get to a point where God stops loving them? Why did the Bible talk of being separated from the love of God and keeping oneself in the love of God? The answer is we can never come to a point where God stops loving us. The love being talked of here is not God's love for us, but our own love for God. There are many things contending to take away the love we have for God. Paul said, will persecution, nakedness, perils etc separate us from the love of God? In other words will any of these things stop us from loving God. Some persons have stopped loving God because of one calamity or the other that befell them. But God is interested in us loving Him just as much as He loves us. This is why Jude advised the Christians to keep themselves in the love of God.
We must strive to keep loving God. We should never allow anything to rob us of our love of God. The Bible talks of people whose love shall wax cold in the end time (Matt 24:12). Let us not be among these people. We should work and yield to the Holy Spirit to keep ourselves in the love of God.
