Call upon God

"Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I shall call upon Him as long as I live." (Psa. 116:2) "Will he take delight in the Almighty? Will he call on God at all times?" (Job 27:10) I have witnessed firsthand the extent most people will go to get the phone number of an important personality. A woman once abandoned her children, borrowed money from friends, took a bus to Abuja, and waited in frustration for days just to get the contact of a government official. I have seen fans jubilate uncontrollably as they get the phone number of their favourite movie star or musician. I remember the joy I felt many years ago when I was able to speak on the phone with one of the popular Nigerian artistes. I felt like I won a million dollars! I hear the resounding joy in people voice when their call go through on popular radio programmes and they feel like they have spoken with important people. These are all good and lovely; but like the Apostle Paul would say "it 'profiteth little'". None of these people we are so eager to call on can affect our life the way God can!.

It is sad that we waste our effort and time calling on people who can do so little for us. We are like the people Jesus spoke to in Matt 12:42. Jesus highlighted the length the Queen of Sheba went to in order to meet with Solomon. But "One greater than Solomon" is right here with us all times, waiting for our call; and we never call. We would call our friends, our doctors, our lawyers, our spouse, our children, our parents - but not God!

Most of the things we are passing through are because of our prayerlessness. There is nothing too small or too big to pray about. The instruction God gave us is to bring all our problems to Him - all of them. Calling on God is not a suggestion, it is a command.

"Call upon me in the days of trouble..." (Psa 50:15) That is not a suggestion. It is a command. And those who obey that command, reap the reward.

David said: "Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I shall call upon Him as long as I live." Can you make a vow to always call on God. Call on Him in the morning, afternoon and night. Call Him in the good times and the bad times. Call Him when the waves are wild and when the wind is calm. Just call on God all the time. Call Him "as long as you live"; all your life. Job reiterated that we should call God at all times.

You have got God's number. He is waiting on you. Call Him!
