Apostolic Nuggets III: Be humble

"Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves." (Philippians 2:3 NLT) .

Nugget 3: Be humble

I think humility is often underrated and sorrounded by so many misconception and misinterpretation. What exactly does it mean to be humble. I think humility means to never show off or emphasize your advantage.

Humility is a very difficult thing because naturally we all have basic survival instinct. We want to be noticed and respected. We want to be the alpha male or female in our circle. Humility is only possible through the Holy Spirit.

The scripture admonishes us to be humble because God "gives grace to the humble". The opposite of humble is proud. When we are proud of our accomplishment, intelligence, money, children result, talent, we tend to want to show it off.

I was told of a certain preacher who will have a problem with you if you dare introduce him to preach without citing all his titles and credentials. That's exactly the kind of thing the bible says not to do. The reason we must be humble is because all we have and have done is only possible because God helped us. It makes no sense to boast as if we did it all on our own.

And I have come to notice that people tend to dislike someone who shows off! Be humble.
