"And the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the Lord of hosts, their God," (Hag 1:14, KJV) When we add salt to water, we often stir. When we add spices to our food, we tend to stir. I am not an expert in food science, but i strongly believe that the stirring fulfills two purposes: first, it helps the salt to dissolve quickly and then it helps the taste of the salt to become evenly distributed inside the water. The stirring increases the pressure in the water and results in a great agitation in the water even at a molecular level. As this agitation goes on, it becomes easier for the salt to dissolve in the water and for the taste to reach every part of the liquid. As i reflect on this little example from nature, I gain a deeper insight into what happens when God stirs up our spirit. I bring to you today the word of God - God is about to stir your spirit for something great..
In the time of Haggai, there was a great coldness and little or no interest or motivation to do God's will or work. Haggai lived in a time when people were more interested in their personal lives than in the things of God. He lived in the time when people valued their personal apointments, personal schedules, personal careers above the things of God. Nobody had the time to know what God had to say, and nobody cared to listen. For some of us, we have come to that point in our lives even as dedicated church goers and professed christians. The things of God are already taking second place in our heart and our life. And the danger of this situation is that as long as our hearts and spirits remain cold towards God and His work, we would never receive the full blessing that God has prepared for us. That is why God is going to stir our spirit, Halleluyah!
Just like He did for the entire city of Judah, from the govenor to the high priest to the people, God stirred up their spirit. And the Bible says they came and did work in the house of the Lord. God is going to stir your spirit today, and prepare you for the blessing He has for you this coming September. God bless you!
Prayer
God I surrender my spirit to you. Stir me up for the great work and blessing you have prepared for me in Jesus name. Amen
