Believe God

It is one thing to believe that God performed miracles in the Bible. It is another thing to believe that God is able to intervene in your own situation. .

“If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”
Mark 9:23 (KJV)

After understanding that God is a God of miracles, the next question is:

Do I believe Him?

In Mark 9, a father brought his troubled son to Jesus. He had already experienced disappointment. The disciples had tried to help, but the situation remained unchanged.

The father said to Jesus:

“If thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.”

Jesus responded:

“If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”

Jesus was not teaching that faith gives us control over God or guarantees that God must do whatever we demand.

He was teaching us to recognize the possibility of God's power.

Sometimes our biggest obstacle is not the size of the problem but the limitation we have placed on God in our minds.

We look at the diagnosis.

We look at the financial situation.

We look at the failed opportunity.

We look at the broken relationship.

We look at the years that have passed.

And we conclude:

“There is no way.”

But faith asks a different question:

“What is possible with God?”

Faith does not pretend that the problem doesn't exist.

Faith simply refuses to make the problem bigger than God.

The father in this story eventually cried:

“Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.”

What a powerful prayer.

He acknowledged that his faith needed help.

Perhaps that is where you are today.

You believe God, but you are struggling with doubt.

You have heard testimonies, but you are wondering whether God will do something in your situation.

You have prayed before, but disappointment has affected your expectation.

Bring that honestly to God.

You don't have to pretend.

Ask Him to strengthen your faith.

Faith comes by hearing the Word of God. The more we know God's character and His promises, the more confidently we can trust Him.

Don't let what you see make you forget what God can do.

Believe God.

Reflection

  • What situation is challenging my faith right now?

  • Have I allowed past disappointments to weaken my expectation of God?

  • What does God's Word say about the situation I am facing?

Prayer

Father, I believe You are able to do what I cannot do. Where my faith is weak, strengthen me. Help me to trust Your power and Your wisdom. Deliver me from doubt that keeps me from trusting You. Let my faith be anchored in Your Word and not in my circumstances. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Daily Declaration

I believe God.
My faith is stronger than my fear.
My circumstances do not define God's ability.
Nothing is impossible with God.
I trust God even when I cannot see the outcome.
Amen.
