The Living Word

"It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life" (John 6:63) One of the greatest mysteries of our faith is the concept of the living Word. Many people find it difficult to wrap their head around it. The words that I speak to you are spirit and they are life. The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us. The spoken Word even before it was made flesh was alive. It didn't become alive as soon as it was made flesh! It has always been alive. For in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word brought everything to life, and nothing could have existed without the Word. All God needs to bring something and anything into being was His Word. His Word is enough. As He calleth the things that be not as if they are, they automatically appear. That is possible because the Word is alive. It is spirit. It is life. It carries power. That is why we must never doubt God's Word. Its entrance brings light. The Word of God is all that is needed to turn anything around. It is sufficient. Most times when God tells people, "I am going to do so and so thing". Such people will turn around to God and ask God to show them a sign, a proof that He would do just what He said. I always consider that to be the highest display of faithlessness. If God says it, it is guaranteed. There is no greater proof than the word of God..

Anything that proceeds out of the mouth of the mouth of the Lord is true. And His word can never pass away. Now come to think of it, sometimes even as human, we tell people to take our word for it. We ask them to take our word as a guarantee. We tell them, "I am giving you my word, I will certainly do what I am promising". Now, if we mortals expect people to take our word, our failing, unreliable word as a guarantee, how much more should we take God's word for what He says?!

The word of God carries with it the power to bring into effect whatever He says. When He says to the cripple, "Rise up and walk!". The legs responds. The cripple rises. No additional surgery or medical attention is needed because the word that was released creates what it says. It is the living word. The word that  carries life and power!
