"And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord." (Gen 6:7-8) Christians are not ordinary people. They Bible calls us a chosen generation, a royal priesthood and a peculiar people. All these titles and accolades are made possible because of grace. It doesn't matter what goes on with the world around us, as children of God we have a covenant of grace which states that our own case must be different. The terms of this contract are non-negotiable. They are sealed with the blood of Jesus. The devil cannot do anything about it, and even God Himself will not change it because it is in line with His divine purpose. There is no qualification for grace except that we must become and remain children of God. The only way through which we obtain grace is by faith in Jesus and not by works. This does not mean that we can live our life anyhow and still expect the grace of God to work in our lives. What the Bible means by works here is the Jewish system of legalism. It means that grace or favor or salvation will not be earned by keeping the law and rejecting Jesus Christ. Grace is gotten through faith in Jesus. The Bible says in John 15:7 "If ye abide in me and my word abide in you ...". Many people misconstrue the doctrine of grace. Grace is not meant to condone sin, rather to put an end to it. As Christians we must realize that the grace of God is functional in our lives only as long as we remain in God because grace is precipitated on our faith in Christ Jesus..
In our text God had decided to destroy the whole world with everything in it - man, beast and all. But God saw a man who was "just and perfect" in that generation of perversion. He saw a man who "walked with Him", obeyed Him and did whatever He commanded; and in response God favoured Him.
The Bible says "Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord". May you find grace in the eyes of God this year. As a believer, and one saved by the blood of Jesus, your faith in Jesus has already made you a partaker of this grace. My prayer is that nothing should rob you of this grace. May God's grace make the difference in your life. By virtue of this grace you shall be exempted from pestilence, famine, untimely death, misfortunes, etc. The grace of God saved Noah and his family from death. Noah and his family were the only people saved in the whole world all because of grace. Grace makes the difference.
